Bills' Need For New Receiver Still Being Pushed, But Why?

If there ever was a team that showed you can win a lot of games without a true No. 1 receiver, it was the 2024 Buffalo Bills.

Bills' Need For New Receiver Still Being Pushed, But Why?

After Stefon Diggs and Gabriel Davis were moved on in the offseason, the Bills adopted an "Everybody eats" mantra that was more of a receiver-by-committee approach.

And it worked.

The Bills had one of the best offenses in football, averaging 30.9 points a game, having a 13-4 record, and Josh Allen was named NFL MVP.

This offseason, Mack Hollins and Amari Cooper were free agents, and Joshua Palmer was signed to replace them to have Allen's weapons consist of Khalil Shakir, Curtis Samuel, Keon Coleman, Palmer, Dalton Kincaid, and Dawson Knox.

We think that's enough, but many are still pushing for the Bills to add more weapons, including CBS Sports.

"General manager Brandon Beane has insisted Buffalo has adequate weaponry for Josh Allen, but even with Josh Palmer's speed now paired with Khalil Shakir's well-roundedness, are we sure this group has a true No. 1 outlet?" CBS Sports writes.

This group doesn't have a true No. 1 outlet, and last season showed they don't need one.

Would it be nice? Sure, but Allen proved last season that when he isn't forcing the ball to one player, instead spreading it around, the offense was more damaging. Plus, it made defending every weapon hard because any player could get the ball on any given play.

Additionally, Buffalo has just $1.6 million left in cap space, according to Over The Cap. What kind of upgrade at receiver can the Bills get for that? Not likely to be one that can usurp the list of receivers we listed above.

The need for another receiver has puzzled us, especially after last year's exploits and the signing of Palmer.

But again, it appears Buffalo will have to prove that the "everybody eats" mantra can propel it to Super Bowl glory.
