The Buffalo Bills knew that entering the offseason, adding some beef and bulk to their defense was the way forward, given the offense's ability to put up points for fun.
That led to Joey Bosa, Larry Ogunjobi, and Michael Hoecht being signed in free agency to give some more bite to their pass rush that was found wanting in the playoffs.
Then came the draft, and again, defense was the priority, with Buffalo's first five picks being on defense, and one of them was Arkansas edge Landon Jackson, who was taken in the third round.
A long, rangy edge who ESPN's Matt Miller has as one of his best value picks of the draft.
"Jackson is one of this draft's best value picks, a high-upside edge rusher who joins a Buffalo defense lacking impact players," Miller writes. "He's similar to Bills edge rusher AJ Epenesa, as Jackson is a solid three-down performer. He doesn't have the sudden moves to get double-digit sacks, but Jackson is a future starter and emblematic of the "meat and potatoes" nature of this class."
A solid contributor for Arkansas in his last two seasons, totaling 6.5 sacks and at least 10 tackles for loss each year, and now he comes to Buffalo looking to make his mark on Sean McDermott's defense.
Possessing high energy and a willingness to keep banging down the door, Jackson is looming as a top-of-the-rotation prospect if he has a good training camp and develops his skill set.
And if he does, add him to the list of Bills pass rushers who the franchise hopes will play a big role in finally getting the organization to break through its playoff ceiling.
