"You know, we're at a weird spot right now where we're still fighting for the one seed, but we don't control our own destiny," Allen said. "As an offense, it's how much are we willing to show? Are we wanting to go extreme and show everything in our arsenal? There's a line that you've got to toe."
The reality is, Kansas City has a very high likelihood of locking up the top spot in the AFC. Expecting the Chiefs to drop two games in a row is an unlikely expectation. So, as Allen said, the Bills are trying to "toe the line" between winning games and saving something for the playoffs.
If the Bills win on Sunday against the Jets, they will lock up the No. 2 seed in the AFC with no matter what happens in Week 18. So, the Bills have two options — they can either empty the bag to beat these last regular season opponents on the hope that the Chiefs lose two in a row, or they can hold some of their offense back, try to do enough to win, and hopefully treat Week 18 as somewhat of a bye week to rest starters and get healthy for a first round home playoff game in Orchard Park. It sure sounds like they're doing the latter.
Based on how explosive the offense looked in the weeks leading up to last Sunday's outing against the Patriots, it would make sense. If the Bills are keeping some stuff in their bag for the playoffs while hoping using Week 18 to rest up for full strength, there are worse positions to be in.
