Former New England Patriots coach is coming out with a new book entitled "The Art of Winning: Lessons from My Life in Football." The book details Belichick's long history as a football coach and accordingly most of the book covers his time in Foxboro.
The book has been reviewed and it is a typical coach book. However he admits making a mistake as coach of the Patriots by not drafting Lamar Jackson as Tom Brady's eventual successor in 2018.
The Patriots had the pick right before the one the Baltimore Ravens used to select Jackson. Instead of taking Jackson, the Patriots selected Georgia running back Sony Michel. The Ravens took Jackson and the rest is history.
Brady lasted two more seasons in New England and then left for the sunshine in Tampa Bay. However, the Patriots won the Super Bowl in 2018, but the pain would last for years as he floundered after Brady left, while the Ravens were busy playing for AFC Championships.
Michel turned out to be a bust and a journeyman runner who never made an impact in the league. Jackson, meanwhile is a multiple time winner of the NFL Most Valuable Player Award and has become one of the best quarterbacks the game has known.
Belichick stayed on as the Patriots coach after Brady left and remained until after the conclusion of the 2023 season. He say out the 2024 season before the University of North Carolina hired him to be their head football coach.
The book is scheduled to hit book stores and online distributors on May 6.
