Ben Johnson looks ready to move on from a failed Bears signing

After the Chicago Bears' always-anticipated "Family Fest" practice was over on Sunday, head coach Ben Johnson took some time with the media to put a bow on one of the more memorable training camp activities in Chicago.

At one point, Johnson was asked specifically about rookie running back Kyle Monangai, to which he offered some significant praise. Johnson also spoke highly of the entire running back group. But, one name was missing: Travis Homer.

"I thought all the runners, him, I thought Roschon, I thought Swifty, I thought Ian, I thought all those guys, they were putting their shoulders down and they were running through contact ... I thought those guys were trying to play a physical brand of football all around," the head coach explained.

It could not be more obvious that Travis Homer is going to be cut sooner or later

There is a reason why Johnson did not mention the likes of Homer, and it's pretty obvious. Homer doesn't do a whole lot of carrying the football offensively. As has been the case for his entire NFL career, Homer is more of a special teams player and pass-catching back.

Over his 6-year NFL career, the former sixth-round pick by Seattle has only notched 89 carries. But, if you look at the last couple of years in Chicago, it's even worse. As a Bear, Homer has six carries for 23 yards.

Funny enough, he was supposed to be one of Shane Waldron's favorites. Even then, he had a hard time finding touches.

Now, the Bears have a more well-rounded running back room that's been underrated by the rest of the football world. Yet, Johnson seems to like them a lot. Between D'Andre Swift, Roschon Johnson and Monangai, Johnson might have enough to work with.

At least, that's what the Bears have told us to this point by not going out and adding anyone notable.

Homer, meanwhile, won't be around that much longer.
