The legendary John McCook is marking the end of an era. No, the beloved The Bold and the Beautiful star isn’t leaving the CBS soap.
McCook has played Eric Forrester since The Bold and the Beautiful’s debut in 1987. Before that, McCook was on The Young and the Restless as Lance Prentiss.

Taking to Instagram, McCook revealed he’s had the same dressing room at Television City, where both CBS soaps film, for five decades. However, the other day he walked out of that dressing room for the very last time.
“50 years ago I was Lance Prentiss on The Young and the Restless then in 1987 I became Eric Forrester on The Bold and the Beautiful. Today I’ve spent 50 plus years at CBS Television City…my dressing room now is empty and our show will be moving over to The Sunset Las Palmas Studios where it will rebuild, refresh and enlarge our sets, bringing back the old glitz and glamour of our show. Stay tuned for what’s ahead and spread the good news. Soap Opera is here to stay…” he wrote as the caption of the social media share featuring him in his dressing room.
The comments section was filled with familiar faces popping in to let McCook know he and the rest ofThe Bold and the Beautiful cast will be missed.
Courtney Hope, who placed Sally on B&B and now plays her on Y&R, gushed over her former co-star. “We will all miss seeing you in the halls! It was an honor to work with you there and to have many great chats in that dressing room! Cheers to this new chapter ☺️!”
The Young and the Restlessstar Lauralee Bell (Christine) shared, “I will miss your smiling face in the hallway! Hope you’ll invite us over for a fieldtrip to show us the new spot ❤️.” Melissa Claire Egan, Chelsea on Y&R, wrote, “We will miss you all!🥹❤️.”
McCook’s on-screen daughterJacqueline MacInnes Wood (Steffy) left her emojis, while his real-life daughter Molly McCook also reflected on life at Television City.
“I will miss the smell of those halls and comfort of your dressing room. Best memories. Best job. Our whole family has been blessed with these memories. I love you!!!!” she declared.
As Parade reported, The Bold and the Beautiful will begin taping at the new studio in August, marking the first time in the show's history that it won’t be at Television City with The Young and the Restless.
McCook isn’t the only one getting emotional about the move.Ashley Jones (Bridget) teared up as she shared her final exit from the studio.
