Bears urged to cut ties with 6-time Pro Bowler after unproductive season

The Chicago Bears had high expectations in 2024 following big offseason acquisitions. The season has slipped away from them, and they could move on from some of their less productive players.

While listing players the Bears should move on from, FanSided's Cristopher Kline urged the team to cut ties with Keenan Allen.

"GMFB" reveal their biggest takeaways from NFC North after Week 12.

"Part of it is his contract, which expires at season's end. But part of it is a simple acceptance of the facts. Allen, at 32, is no longer the bankable WR1 he was in Los Angeles," wrote Kline. "He's on the downturn, and it's tough for his best game of the season to coincide with another heartbreaking loss. Allen was finally involved in the offense at a level befitting his status as a six-time Pro Bowl wideout and it... didn't matter. The result was the same, another loss."

Allen is a six-time Pro Bowler and has started nine games for the Bears this season. He has just 368 yards. The Bears traded for Allen from the Los Angeles Chargers in exchange for a fourth-round pick.

The Bears had hoped for Allen to be a huge asset for Caleb Williams, but he is no longer the player he once was. He is in the final year of a four-year, $80 million extension he signed before the 2020 season. He has not shown that the Bears should keep him around.

"Chicago invested a lot in the WR position last offseason. DJ Moore remains the obvious top target for Williams, while Rome Odunze figures to increase his workload and efficiency in due time — perhaps with a more palatable scheme and offensive ecosystem around him in 2025," wrote Kline. "Allen, meanwhile, feels like a misuse of resources. He's still good enough to command a significant contract, or at least to coax an overpay out of a desperate pretender. The Bears shouldn't bite."
