Bears Sign Trade Acquisition to Extension With 'Significant Guarantees'

The Chicago Bears have completely rebuilt the interior of their offensive line over the first few days of the 2025 league year.

Earlier this week, the Bears announced they had signed veteran center Drew Dalman to a three-year contract and completed trades to acquire guards Joe Thuney and Jonah Jackson after agreeing to terms before NFL free agency.

One of the Bears' trade acquisitions — Jackson — also signed a new extension.

According to NFL Network's Mike Garafolo, the Bears signed Jackson to a one-year extension when acquired him from the Los Angeles Rams. His contract will now run through the end of the 2027 season and include new guarantees for 2026, including $7 million fully guaranteed and $5.25 million for injury.

"Jonah Jackson was relegated to a backup role with the #Rams," Garafolo wrote Thursday night on X. "[He] was able to get a fresh start with the #Bears and a head coach in Ben Johnson who knows him well and got an extension with significant guarantees on top.

"Chicago [is] showing its faith [that] last season was a blip for Jackson."

Jackson had a rough 2024 season with the Rams that included injury absences and a benching from the starting lineup, but he made the Pro Bowl in 2021 blocking for the Detroit Lions and spent two seasons with Johnson as his OC.

During those seasons, Jackson made a strong impression on Johnson — as the latter emphasized when addressing his acquisition earlier this week.

"The guy is a Pro Bowl-caliber guard, so that's what we're going to get out of him," Johnson said of Jackson.

Johnson also confirmed that Jackson will start at right guard for the Bears while Thuney — a Pro Bowler in each of the last three seasons for the Kansas City Chiefs — will remain in his traditional role as their starting left guard.
