Bears QB Caleb Williams Dissed on Future Hall of Famer Roundup

It’s a huge year for the Chicago Bears and one that will reshape the franchise. Of course, the biggest change is that the team has a new head coach in Ben Johnson, who hails from the Detroit Lions. With Johnson’s knowledge of a solid offense, he’s expected to really change the Bears’ offense, for the better, and help budding quarterback Caleb Williams thrive.

When Chicago drafted Williams, they really saw him as the future of the franchise and their longtime quarterback. But, he stumbled in his first season with the team, so this year will say a lot about what he will bring.

With just a month and some change left until the start of the regular 2025-26 season, in a feature for CBS Sports published on Saturday, Aug. 2, Bryan DeArdo predicts one Hall of Famer for each NFL team. Can you guess who he picked from the Bears as the most likely candidate? Here’s a hint: It wasn’t Williams.

A Chicago Bears Future Hall of Famer

In the CBS Sports feature, DeArdo notes that there’s “no official criteria when determining who is enshrined in the Pro Football Hall of Fame. That being said, based on who has and who hasn’t been enshrined over the past 50 years, it’s safe to say that there are certain things the voters look at when determining who should get a bronze bust and a gold jacket.” For the article, DeArdo used “interpretation of some of the unspoken criteria used when determining who gets into the Hall of Fame.”

So, who did he pick for the Bears? Joe Thuney, who he says isn’t a lock for the honor, but he’s getting there. The player’s “continued success in Chicago will determine Thuney’s fate.”

“Thuney’s career has included two Super Bowl wins with the Patriots, two more Super Bowl wins with the Chiefs and three consecutive Pro Bowl berths entering this season,” DeArdo notes. “Now 32, Thuney will need to start racking up the Pro Bowl nods if he is going to have a serious Hall of Fame case some day. Another Super Bowl wouldn’t hurt, either.”

That’s a lot of Super Bowl wins, so it would seem appropriate to see DeArdo in the Hall with or without Chicago Bears success. Williams could also make the cut, because he has the talent and a great coach with Johnson.

The Best Quarterback in the NFL

Maybe next year, Williams will be considered one of the best quarterbacks in the league, but not yet. In a piece published on Friday, Aug. 1, by Fox Sports, they named Josh Allen of the Buffalo Bills the top signal-caller in the league.

“It says a lot to be ranked ahead of Mahomes,” Fox Sports notes. “While Allen has yet to beat Mahomes in the playoffs, he showed consistency with his arm and legs last season. In 2024, despite not having a single elite target after Stefon Diggs went to Houston, Allen threw for 3,731 yards and 28 touchdowns.”

If Williams is the real deal, he’ll make the cut next season. We can’t wait to watch him with Johnson calling the plays. There are just a few more weeks to go.
