Bears predicted to hire Super Bowl XLV champion as head coach

The Chicago Bears are currently searching for their next head coach and a former rival could end up being the hire. With many candidates, one Super Bowl-winning head coach could stand out.

While predicting who head coach needy teams would hire Bleacher Report's Maurice Moton predicted the Bears would hire former Green Bay Packers and Dallas Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy.

"The Chicago Bears have interviewed top candidates Ben Johnson and Mike McCarthy, though the veteran lead skipper makes more sense for a franchise that needs a proven stabilizing presence," wrote Moton. "The Bears have fired three of their last four coaches within three years. Matt Eberflus didn't finish his third term this past season. While Johnson may be a more intriguing candidate because he's a 38-year-old offensive play-caller who's led a top-five scoring offense in all three of his seasons as a coordinator, McCarthy has a winning track record, going 174-112-2 in 18 years as a head coach for the Green Bay Packers and Dallas Cowboys."

McCarthy won Super Bowl XLV as head coach of the Packers with Aaron Rodgers in his third year as the starter. McCarthy has already turned one talented, young quarterback into a champion and his experience could be key in getting the best out of Caleb Williams. McCarthy joining the Bears would come with some deeper significance as well. His history with the Packers makes it an interesting move for him and would certainly change his perception in the eyes of Packers fans.

"McCarthy has also led his teams to the playoffs in 12 out of 18 years," wrote Moton. "On his watch, the Cowboys went 12-5 in three consecutive campaigns between 2021 and 2023, winning two NFC East titles in that stretch."
