The Chicago Bears have officially placed offensive lineman Ryan Bates on injured reserve, sidelining him for the season due to a concussion. This decision comes in the wake of Bates battling injuries throughout the season, limiting his playtime drastically.
In a corresponding action, the Bears ramped up their backfield by promoting running back Darrynton Evans to the active roster from the practice squad. At 26, Evans brings with him a commendable track record from Appalachian State, where he captured the Sun Belt Conference MVP honors in 2020. Selected by the Tennessee Titans in the 2020 NFL Draft, Evans now adds another chapter in his career with the Bears, having spent time with the team in 2022 and 2023.
Bates' move to injured reserve caps a challenging season for the lineman, who had previously been acquired from Buffalo.
The Bears continue to face mounting challenges on the offensive line. Starting left guard Teven Jenkins is questionable for Sunday’s game due to a calf injury. Depth at guard is becoming a crucial concern for the team as it navigates the rest of the season.
