Bears Insider FINALLY Shuts Down SHOCKING Rumor About Caleb Williams That Had Fans in a Frenzy

Caleb Williams is getting exactly what he needs in his second training camp: tough love from a head coach who isn’t interested in doing any hand holding.

Ben Johnson has made it clear from Day 1 that his goal is to push Williams and the rest of the team to get better while also installing a strong foundation to build on moving forward. In order to make sure things are done his way, Johnson hasn’t hesitated to, say, pull Williams and the first-team offense out if they’re not doing things the way he wants them.

Some fans have wondered if Johnson’s tough coaching has irked the second-year signal-caller.

According to insider Jeff Hughes of Da Bears Blog, that hasn’t been the case at all

Insider Addresses Relationship Between Ben Johnson & QB Caleb Williams

Head coach Ben Johnson of the Chicago Bears talks with Caleb Williams #18 during Chicago Bears Training Camp.

GettyHead coach Ben Johnson of the Chicago Bears and QB Caleb Williams are still building their relationship.

“I know there is a lot of chatter surrounding Ben Johnson and Caleb Williams but everything I hear is super positive, re: their relationship,” Hughes wrote on X on July 29. “Ben is a brilliant teacher. Caleb is a willing pupil. Will it translate to Sundays? Nobody knows. But it’s working now.”

Williams threw for 3,541 yards and 20 touchdowns while throwing only six interceptions, finishing with a 62.5% completion rate and a passer rating of 87.8. Those numbers set multiple franchise rookie records, including most passing attempts (562) and completions (351).

He also led a game‑winning drive in the season finale that broke the Bears’ 10‑game losing streak and ended an 11‑game skid against the rival Green Bay Packers. He showed poise and grace under pressure multiple times, and that’s why it’s fair to get hyped about the upcoming season if you’re a Bears fan.

Johnson’s arrival as Bears head coach—and the culture shift he’s bringing—should be a breath of fresh air for Williams and the franchise.

Johnson has focused on accountability, precision and execution, and those are all things Williams needs. So far, Johnson has pushed Williams hard during camp, and Williams has seemingly embraced it.

The Bears Coach & QB Have Set Big Goals for 2025

Williams has set lofty goals for his second season. He wants to become the first QB in franchise history to pass for 4,000 yards. Johnson has stated he’d like his young QB to complete at least 70% of his passes.

As they continue to work and grow together, Johnson and Williams’ relationship is going to be one of the most important aspects of the team’s overall chemistry. And, considering the coaching turnover and highly-publicized dysfunction that went on last year, it’s fair to look at this year’s camp as more like Williams’ true rookie season, since the previous coaching staff failed to give the accountability and structure that Johnson is now delivering.

“He knows what’s coming and we’re getting to the point now where I don’t even have to say as much,” Johnson said about Williams, via the Chicago Tribune.

“He’s as hard on himself as I’m being on him. And he’s disappointed when we’re not spitting the plays out in the huddle the way we should be or if we’re not taking the proper drop or if our eyes aren’t in the right place. He’s getting to that point where it’s more self-correction.”

If the game starts to slow down for Williams, the outlook for Chicago should be as good as it’s been in decades.
