With the 2025 NFL Draft creeping closer and closer, we're beginning to get a strong idea about what direction certain teams will go in during the opening night of the first-round.
But, for the Chicago Bears, things are still anyone's guess with the 10th overall pick, mainly because you never know how the first nine selections will unfold and partially because the Bears don't have a true #1 need on the roster.
Nevertheless, the Bears are lining up Top-30 visits and private workouts giving us some idea of what interesting names are already linked to the Bears.
Prospects such as running back Ashton Jeanty, offensive tackle Josh Conerly, and wide receiver Isaiah Bond headline the list of incoming 30 visits. Another name was linked on Saturday that has become a controversial target for the Bears at 10.
That player is Penn State tight end Tyler Warren. According to Tony Pauline, the Bears are one of six teams planning to host Warren on a private workout after the tight end declined to work out during Penn State's Pro Day.
The reason this is a controversial target has nothing to do with Warren's ability. He is an uber-talented weapon on offense who excels in-line but also has the versatility to play anywhere on the field, including the backfield.
The consensus seems to be split on who the top TE in the class is between Warren and Michigan's Colston Loveland. Despite playing the same position, Warren and Loveland's games are strikingly different.
Warren is a mismatch nightmare while Loveland is a more explosive big-slot, similar to Cincinnati Bengals tight end Mike Gesicki. Both players are an acquired taste to potential NFL play-callers but it seems like Ben Johnson prefers one over the other.
The other thing that makes this target and rumored interest controversial for the Bears is the fact that the front office already locked up tight end Cole Kmet, who holds a strong relationship with quarterback Caleb Williams despite his production struggles in 2024. But who's saying Kmet's presence should rule out another TE?
Johnson has been known to work with multiple tight ends in the past. In fact, Johnson ran 12-personnel more than any team in the NFL last season with the Lions.
Pairing a talent like Warren with Kmet, DJ Moore, and Rome Odunze would give the Bears one of the best 12-personnel units in the league with Johnson calling plays.
Would he fill a dire need remaining on the roster by selecting him 10th overall? Maybe not. But would he make for an exciting offense in 2025? Absolutely.
