Bears’ Capacity for Ineptitude is Seemly Infinite

When it comes to NFL ownership, the Chicago Bears‘ ownership, aka the McCaskey Family, may be the limbo champs. They seem to be able to go lower than anybody else. They’ve displayed a remarkable talent to turn chicken salad into chicken manure. The retention of head coach Matt Eberflus is the latest example of this phenomenon.

New Bears’ GM, Ryan Poles seemed to have turned things around. Some nice draft picks and fleecing the Carolina Panthers in a trade for the first overall draft pick of the 2023 draft seemed to have turned the corner for the Bears. But alas that was not the case.

I wish the Bears knew how to quit him

Obviously, I’m referring to Matt Eberflus. Eberflus was less than inspiring last season. With a roster full of talent, and a chance to pick any QB they wanted in the NFL draft, it was an ideal time to flush the Flus. But nah, that didn’t happen. I’m not sure as to the reason why. Was it ineptitude, or cheapness? With this franchise you’re never quite sure.

It is true the Bears have never fired a coach during the season. It’s really time to break that tradition. Eberflus is obviously not up to the task and the players have quit on him. But the McCaskeys will probably ride the situation out, regardless of how miserable things get. Sort of like Slim Pickens riding that bomb all the way to the ground in Dr. Strangelove. Yep, I’m afraid the McCaskeys will ride the Eberflus bomb all the way to the ground.

Just when I think they are getting their act together, they prove me wrong

On Jan. 12, 2023, Kevin Warren was named President and Chief Executive Officer of the Chicago Bears. This was thought to be a sign of progress on the part of the Bears as an organization. It seems that Warren was going to spearhead the Bears quest for a new stadium. I have no idea of what the Bears doing on that front.

Beyond that, I have no idea of what impact he’s having on the franchise. Apparently, he gets up really early. So do I, but it’s usually to pee. And I may be accomplishing more than Warren. Frankly, I’m more impressed with Yogi Bear. Yogi could sleep till noon but before it was dark, he would have every picnic basket in Jellystone Park. That’s the type of guy the Bears need.

Look around at all the opportunities the Bears missed

There were a ton of great options in the last offseason. Dan Quinn, John Harbaugh and Mike Vrabel, and Lions OC, Ben Johnson were all available. But no, the Bears stayed the course. The cheap course.

Is there anybody out there who doesn’t think the Bears wouldn’t be better off with one of those four guys at the helm? But hey, this way is cheaper.

Why are Chicago sports fans cursed with incredibly poor management?

The McCaskeys are the NFL’s version of Jerry Reinsdorf. The matriarch of the Bears, Virginia McCaskey is 101 years old. Jerry Reinsdorf is 89. Usually, rich white people that old are involved in politics, making people miserable on a national level. However, Virginia and Jerry seem content to limit their spreading of misery to Chicago sports fans.

Honestly, I don’t know if Virginia McCaskey has anything to do with running the Bears or not. But whoever is running the show ought to be ashamed of themselves.

Man overboard!

Matt Eberflus has shown a reluctance to take responsibility for the fiasco that is the Bears. Couple that tendency with the Bears’ reluctance to make even the most obvious of needed changes and you’ll get another feature of a feckless organization. The Blame Game. So, who will Matt Eberflus throw under the bus? My guess is that OC, Shane Waldron is the leader in the clubhouse.
