Bears $50 million playmaker named most overrated player at his position

The Chicago Bears made a stunning first-round draft pick this past April when the team took Michigan tight end Colston Loveland with the No. 10 pick.

Chicago always seemed like they were going to target an offensive player, but there was speculation that the team would take a running back or Penn State's tight end, Tyler Warren.

Instead, Chicago wanted the tight end from Michigan, even though they already had tight end Cole Kmet on the roster.

Kmet is viewed as one of the better players at his position, but Gary Davenport from Bleacher Report thinks he's the most overrated tight end in the NFL.

"In 2023, the Chicago Bears gave tight end Cole Kmet a four-year, $50 million contract extension. He responded with the best season of his five-year career: 73 catches for 719 yards and six scores," Davenport wrote. "In 2025, however, the Bears used their first pick on Michigan tight end Colston Loveland, clouding Kmet's future. Kmet is a good player and a fan favorite in Chicago. And despite all the trade speculation, he isn't especially likely to be moved. But when the seventh-highest paid tight end in the league isn't even the best player at the position on your team, something is out of whack."

Kmet has a career of 2,592 receiving yards and 19 scores and could be on his way out of Chicago soon with the new addition of Loveland.
