When the tournament is over and the dust is cleared it would come as no surprise if Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs were hoisting yet another Lombardi trophy to add to their collection. However, the dynasty looks vulnerable going into the NFL Playoffs, and if there's one team in the AFC who has the best chance at dethroning the reigning champions, it's Lamar Jackson and the Baltimore Ravens.
All Jackson has done in his seventh season in the NFL is lead the league in passer rating, QBR and Approximate Value. He appears to be on pace to win his third career MVP trophy and second in as many years. Obviously Jackson came into this level a special athlete and he deserves the lion's share of the credit for his growth over the last two seasons. However, there some people who do deserve an honorable mention.
One of those folks is Ravens quarterbacks coach Tee Martin, who has been named among 12 potential candidates for the Seattle Seahawks' offensive coordinator opening by Alexandre Castro at SB Nation.
"He also has extensive experience in a variety of roles including WRs, QB Coach, PGC and OC at USC. When Mike Macdonald was hired, I was pretty sure he would bring Martin in as his OC. He was promoted to QB Coach with the Ravens from QB to QB coach for Lamar Jackson under Todd Monken. Jackson and the Ravens credit Martin, as well as Monken, for Jackson’s rise over the last two years."
In Seattle Martin might be able to get Geno Smith to play at a level that we haven't seen from him yet - as we were anticipating Ryan Grubb would do going into the 2024 season. One need only watch Lamar's accuracy as a passer growing dramatically since the 2022 campaign to see how Martin could have a positive effect on Smith's game with the Seahawks. Martin's previous experience working with head coach Mike Macdonald shouldn't be discounted, either.
While there's been no reported interview request as of yet, Martin should be a strong candidate for the OC job. That being said, what this offense needs more than anything else is a coordinator who knows how to engineer an improvement at the line of scrimmage. We expect that Macdonald will choose to go with someone who has an OL background, such as Hank Frankley from the Detroit Lions.

Denver Broncos head coach Sean Payton knows what he wants from his quarterback.
