The Baltimore Ravens are adding a boost for the defense in Week 6. The news comes a few days before the Ravens are set to play one of the hottest offenses in the league on Sunday, the Washington Commanders.
The Baltimore Ravens have a big test in Week 6
Led by rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels, the Commanders have scored 38, 42, and 34 points in their previous three outings. The Ravens’ defense is ranked 19th in yards given up this season, averaging surrendering 340.6 yards per game. They have allowed 14 touchdowns through the first five games.
With the 3-2 Ravens looking to keep pace with the 3-2 Pittsburgh Steelers in the AFC North, the team is adding help to the brain trust on the defense.

Per Jeff Zrebiec with The Athletic, the Ravens are hiring Dean Pees for the senior advisor role. Zrebiec quoted defensive coordinator Zach Orr on the hire.
“He’s a guy who knows me as a person, knows the system, knows the culture here,” Orr said. “He’s a Raven.”

A legendary football coach
The 75-year-old coach has a lot of football coaching experience. Pees served as the New England Patriots defensive coordinator from 2006-2009. He was the Ravens’ defensive coordinator from 2012-2017, winning Super Bowl XLVII with the team. The Dunkirk, Ohio native has won two total Super Bowls and has been a defensive coordinator for the Tennessee Titans and Atlanta Falcons.
Pees has not coached since the 2022 season. He served as the head coach of Kent State from 1998-2003.
