Get Ready for a Hefty Serving of Aaron Rodgers and the Jets

Those who were excited to see Aaron Rodgers in a Jets uniform last season (I know, it’s hard to believe that exists) were robbed of that opportunity when he suffered an Achilles injury on the Jets’ opening drive against Buffalo.

For those fans clamoring to see Rodgers under center for the Jets, good things come to those who wait. The Jets will make NFL history this season, becoming the first team since the NFL merger in 1970 to play six primetime games in the first 11 weeks of the season. In addition to their six primetime games, they also play the Vikings in London in Week 5, giving Rodgers’ fans another nationally televised Jets game.

But why so many primetime spots for the Jets? It’s simple, according to the NFL’s Vice President of Broadcasting, Mike North:

“I feel like the Jets kind of owe us one,” Mike North, the NFL’s vice president of broadcast planning, said via the New York Times. “When we had this conversation a year ago, we were all — all of us — all-in on the Jets. For that guy (Rodgers) to last four plays was disheartening for many of us. We feel like we can run it back.”

The Jets are scheduled to kick off their season on Monday night again. But this time, they will play on the road against the San Francisco 49ers. In Week 3, they will have a Thursday night game at home against the New England Patriots, followed by a Monday night game at home against the Bills in Week 6. They are also scheduled to play on Sunday night against the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 7, Thursday night against the Houston Texans in Week 9, and Sunday night against the Indianapolis Colts in Week 11.

How Much Will it Cost You to Have Access to Every NFL Game in 2024?

The complete 2024 NFL schedule has been released, and the league’s numerous media rights agreements might complicate and increase the cost of watching games compared to previous seasons. With Christmas games available only on Netflix and “Thursday Night Football” airing on Amazon Prime Video, fans may need to subscribe to multiple services to watch every game.

But how much?

Let’s do some math.

  • Netflix: $6.99/month
  • Amazon Prime Video: $8.99 a month, but if you’re already a Prime member (for $14.99 a month), Prime Video is included.
  • ESPN+: $10.99/month
  • Peacock: $5.99/month
  • NFL Sunday Ticket: If you don’t have a YouTube TV plan ($72.99 per month), you’ll need to make four payments of $112.25. If you do, adding Sunday Ticket will require four additional payments of $87.25.

So, if you don’t have an existing Amazon Prime membership and YouTube TV subscription, it will run you $145.21 per month to access every NFL game in 2024.

Giants Debut 100th Anniversary Alternate Uniforms

The New York Giants revealed an alternate uniform on Thursday to celebrate their 100th season, but the “Century Red” throwback uniforms faced significant criticism on social media.

These uniforms, potentially to be worn in two games this season, include a red and blue jersey, tan pants, and a winged helmet with the same red and blue color scheme. The design elements are inspired by the Giants’ attire from their inaugural season 1925 and other significant moments in the team’s history.

I think they’re a giant whiff. You can form your own opinion:

Jared Goff as Motivated as Ever to Win a Super Bowl After Mega Extension

Jared Goff spoke to reporters on Thursday for the first time since signing the largest player contract in Detroit Lions history. While Goff will earn a substantial amount through his extension, which lasts until the 2028 season, he emphasized that the deal was primarily about security and continuity as the Lions pursue the elusive Lombardi Trophy.

“It was mostly security,” Goff said, via The Athletic’s Colton Pouncy. “I think you can go back and forth on the numbers and whatnot, and that wasn’t really the thing I was ever extremely concerned with. It was the security and the no-trade clause and all that stuff, knowing all that was in there. Feeling secure and then knowing I can now put that behind me and be excited about what’s to come.”

Goff said that he’s more driven than ever to win a Super Bowl and bring the Lombardi Trophy to Detroit:

“I’m more driven and more fired up than ever to go even harder and put the pedal to the metal even more to bring a Super Bowl to this city,” Goff said. “And that’s what’s most important. One day, I won’t be the quarterback here. And being able to look back on those days that I am (the quarterback here) and that I was with no regrets and knowing that I did everything I could to try and make that happen … that would be the ultimate goal.”
