The most interesting positional battle in the Kansas City Chiefs' minicamp, which concluded on Thursday, is the back end of the wide receiver group. Left tackle and the defensive back room remain questions, but fan excitement is understandably centered on the pass-catching core.

Rashee Rice, Xavier Worthy, Hollywood Brown, JuJu Smith-Schuster, and Jalen Royals are all locks to make the roster, yet those final one or two spots are still in question. Nikko Remigio, Justyn Ross, newly-acquired Tyquan Thornton, and the struggling Skyy Moore are all competing for one or two spots, so these moments throughout the summer are key as the organization evaluates each player.

Thornton, in particular, has stood out during OTAs and minicamp, making a strong case that he should make the 53-man roster. If head coach Andy Reid's latest comments are to be believed, he's got an inside track to land a spot.

Andy Reid Teases Big Role for New Chiefs WR Tyquan Thornton

"I like Tyquan (Thornton), I like the way he's approached things," Reid said when speaking to the media this week. "He's got the quarterback's trust, which is a positive thing. You have valuable reps in here. The other guys could see that he's a talented guy. So, so far, so good again. I'd like to see him in a game situation, how he held. I would anticipate him doing a nice job and see where we are with that."

Earning three-time Super Bowl MVP Patrick Mahomes' trust is of the utmost importance. That Thornton already has it speaks volumes about his ability to acclimate to the offense and his surroundings.

Originally a second-round pick in the 2022 NFL Draft by the New England Patriots out of Baylor, Thornton has only 39 catches for 385 yards and a pair of TDs during his brief career. That said, general manager Brett Veach has become one of the league's best at identifying quality players who failed elsewhere and achieved success in Kansas City.

Thornton fits that bill, and he's clearly got talent. If he keeps this up, it'll be almost impossible for the organization to keep him off the roster.
