Analyst makes bold proclamation around Commanders' potential Myles Garrett trade

The rumor mill is still swirling after Cleveland Browns defensive end Myles Garrett officially handed in a trade request. There isn't a team around the league who wouldn't want someone with this level of dominance. Whether the AFC North club becomes receptive to offers is another matter.

Myles Garrett

Adam Peters isn't one to sit idly by while the action happens around him. The Washington Commanders have been strongly linked to Garrett in recent days, which is thanks to their salary-cap space and the need to maximize quarterback Jayden Daniels' rookie contract. Their window is open following a phenomenal run to the NFC Championship game. Joining this ambitious project would no doubt entice the former No. 1 overall selection if something could be worked out.

That's easier said than done. The Commanders will inquire about the possibility — as will almost everybody else with a legitimate chance of contending in 2025. Even so, reports suggest the Browns aren't going to entertain offers and would prefer to work things out with the perennial All-Pro.

NFL analyst believes Commanders are in position to land Myles Garrett

This hasn't stopped almost everyone in the media from speculating. Tyler Brooke from The 33rd Team thought there was no team better positioned to land Garrett than the Commanders. He also thinks two first-round picks this year and next would be enough to get the deal rubber-stamped.

"There isn't another team in a better position to take a swing on a future Hall of Famer than the Washington Commanders. Thanks to Jayden Daniels being on a rookie deal for the next few seasons, the Commanders have more financial flexibility than almost every NFL franchise. They'll be incentivized to take some big swings this offseason to build a contender around their new franchise quarterback. On top of that financial flexibility, the Commanders are desperate for impact players on defense. Garrett would be an instant impact player to lead Washington's pass rush, opening up the rest of the defense for Dan Quinn."

The Commanders are picking No. 29 overall in the 2025 NFL Draft. If Dan Quinn's squad maintains or enhances their initial accomplishments, a similar spot could be in the offing when the 2026 draft rolls around. That makes these picks more expendable than where Washington typically found itself under previous regimes.

Adding Garrett to Washington's defense changes everything. They tread water last season but were found wanting in the trenches versus the NFL's elite. The former Texas A&M standout strikes fear into any offense, which is something the Commanders didn't have this season.

With a dynamic linebacking tandem and a promising young secondary, acquiring Garrett via trade would give the defensive line an injection of energy and proven production that makes everyone better. The interior would find life easier, as would whoever the Commanders have opposite the future Pro Football Hall of Famer in this scenario.

The benefits far outweigh the negatives. Players like Garrett are a rare breed. They don't become available for trade at the peak of their powers and certainly not after securing 102.5 sacks in their first eight campaigns.

A discussion will be had between those in power. Whether it amounts to anything more is something that will captivate fans until something gets confirmed one way or another.
