All eyes are on the Chicago Bears today following a day on Thursday where Mat Eberflus was mocked in unison by nearly every local and national pundit.
With Eberflus' clock management playing a major factor in the Bears' losing streak on the season now reaching six games, many of the team's beat reporters wrote their game stories with a strong sense that the head coach should be fired by the team on Friday. Adding to speculation that changes may be coming for Eberflus and the Bears' coaching staff, team president Kevin Warren did have an extended presence in the locker room following the loss on Thursday.
While there has been no reporting of Eberflus' firing or press release from the Bears, the head coach, in what is normal behavior following road game this season, remains scheduled to meet with the team's beat reporters on Friday morning.
Given that Eberflus meeting with the Bears' beat the morning following a road game is standard procedure, this is likely a situation where the schedule was pre-determined,, and the team will make any changes once a decision is made. At this point, there isn't a read one way or the other regarding whether Eberflus will be fired on Friday.
If the Bears do not fire Eberflus on Friday, then the organization is saying all that needs to be said. That message is that nothing will change. Sure, Eberflus, if he keeps his job on Friday, remains likely to be fired after the season but the hope of Caleb Williams' arrival bringing serious change to the organizational failures that have plagued the Bears since George McCaskey became the team chairman in 2011 can all but be discarded. The Bears are not a serious football organization if they try to weasel away from the decision that has to be made on Friday.
