America's Strongest Bear? Chicago Bears Add Former America's Strongest Man to Strength and Conditioning Staff

The Chicago Bears are determined to strengthen every facet of their franchise. Another step in improving their lackluster on-field performance was the announcement of two new hires for the weight room. Reshard Langford and Mark Philippi have been appointed as assistants on the strength and conditioning staff.

Langford joins the Bears after six years (2018-2024) as the strength and conditioning coach for the United States Tennis Association . Before that, he spent two years with the Minnesota Vikings as an intern and assistant strength and conditioning coach. Prior to this career path, Langford spent three seasons in the NFL with the Philadelphia Eagles, Kansas City Chiefs, and Detroit Lions.

Mark Philippi has a storied history in the fitness world. In 1997, Philippi won the America's Strongest Man title with a staggering 433 kg (952.6 lbs) squat and a 363 kg (798.6 lbs) deadlift. He qualified for the World's Strongest Man competition for seven consecutive years. Beyond mere brute strength, Philippi spent 15 years as the director of strength and conditioning for the University of Las Vegas, Nevada (UNLV). During his time at UNLV, he developed and instructed the strength and conditioning program for the Kinesiology Department.

Injuries and general fitness have been concerns in recent seasons, particularly along the trenches. Both sides of the line were often overpowered throughout the season. Hopefully, these new hires will implement improved training protocols to ensure a stronger and healthier team.
