Pittsburgh Steelers running back and kick returner Cordarrelle Patterson is not a fan of the dynamic kickoff. Patterson, 34, had the worst year of his career as a kick returner in 2024 under the first year of the rule.
He started out the season strong, but after a high ankle sprain cost him four games, Patterson struggled greatly. He was last in the NFL in yards per kick return.
So, when the NFL proposed this year to make the new kickoff permanent, Patterson had some feelings about that, and took to X to share those. In a simple GIF, Patterson made it known he is not a fan.
Patterson said last year in the lead-up to the new rule he was not sure how much he would enjoy it. That skepticism grew over the season, and now it seems Patterson is firmly on the negative side of this situation.
With the new kickoff rules in mind, the Steelers signed Patterson to a two-year deal. He is one of the best kick-returners of all time. Patterson might be well over 30, but he was still a productive kick returner with the old rules.
However, that cratered under the new rules. He will look to find that edge once again as competes for a roster spot in his second season on that contract.
