Following a dozen-year NFL career, Terron Armstead retired in April. The five-time Pro Bowl offensive tackle had enough engaging with some of the league's best defenders, including the Los Angeles Rams' Jared Verse.
Armstead was asked who the top three guys were that he'd miss blocking the least.
"I'm gonna say, No. 1, he was a rookie from the Rams," Armstead recently said on SiriusXM NFL Radio. "That young boy Jared Verse? I'm cool. I'm good. I've never gotta see that man again. I'm okay with that, never seeing that young man again in my life. Bull rush different. Dog, it's different. You know that it's coming, you brace yourself, he's different
"He will be a Defensive Player of the Year one of these days. Mark my words."
Armstead, who was also a second-team Associated Press All-Pro with New Orleans in 2018, also mentioned Cleveland's Myles Garrett, Cincinnati's Trey Hendrickson and Las Vegas' Maxx Crosby.
Rams head coach Sean McVay and general manager Les Snead took Verse with the No. 19 overall pick of the 2024 NFL Draft. He repaid them by earning the Associated Press' Defensive Rookie of the Year award, following in Aaron Donald's footsteps in that regard.
For that honor, Verse beat out fellow Rams defensive lineman Braden Fiske, Philadelphia cornerback Cooper DeJean and Miami outside linebacker Chop Robinson.
"I think it's a small step towards (becoming one of the best players ever," Verse said after. "But there's a lot of people that have won this award that after they win it, they get satisfied. That's the main thing, you can't get satisfied. This is just a small step to a big goal."
