Alabama football took care of business against Mercer on Saturday, winning 52-7 at Bryant-Denny Stadium. The victory over the FCS opponent came as no surprise, but it was enough to elevate the Crimson Tide when the coaches poll top 25 was updated Sunday morning.
It was a similar story later on Sunday, when the latest Associated Press media poll was released.
The Tide jumped up two positions in both polls, moving from No. 9 to No. 7. UA was aided by Tennessee and BYU both losing and taking significant tumbles down the standings.
Alabama sits one spot ahead of Georgia, which it beat earlier in the season, and two ahead of Ole Miss. Oddly, the Rebels also beat the Bulldogs this year but were not rewarded for the win in the polls.
Oregon, which survived a scare at Wisconsin Saturday, remained in the No. 1 spots. Ohio State sits at No. 2, while Texas remained third in both polls
Penn State moved up one spot to fourth in the coaches poll, after holding that spot last week in the AP, while Indiana wasposition fifth. Notre Dame was the only other team ahead of Alabama in either poll, sitting sixth in both.
Miami rounded out the coaches poll top 10, while Tennessee sat 11th, after falling to Georgia in Athens. Those teams flipped positions in the AP poll
BYU fell to No. 15 in the coaches poll, No. 14 AP after its loss to Kansas.
