Alabama NFL roundup: The return of the King

   

In his first two games with the Baltimore Ravens, Derrick Henry ran for 130 yards and two touchdowns on 31 carries. The Ravens lost those games to the Kansas City Chiefs and Las Vegas Raiders.

For Game No. 3, Baltimore leaned on the free-agent running back, and he responded like the Pro Bowler from his Tennessee Titans days in a 28-25 victory over the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday.

Henry ran for 151 yards and two touchdowns on 25 carries and caught a 23-yard pass.

“He showed off,” Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson said. “He did what kings do.”

Henry scored on a 1-yard run as Baltimore took a 14-3 lead with 2:41 left in the first half and a 26-yard run as the Ravens went up 28-6 with 11:58 remaining in the third quarter.

“I definitely wanted to come out here and be able to have an impact to give us a chance to win by the way I played,” Henry said. “I feel like the first two weeks kind of got going a little slow.”

Henry recorded the 12th game of his career with at least 150 rushing yards and two rushing touchdowns, which is tied with LaDainian Tomlinson for the second-most in NFL history. The only player with more such games is Jim Brown, who 13.

Henry was among the 43 former Alabama players who got on the field on the third Sunday of the NFL’s 105th season.

Five other former Alabama players were involved in the Baltimore-Dallas game:

· Ravens cornerback Jalyn Armour-Davis (St. Paul’s Episcopal) did not record any stats.

· Ravens guard Darrian Dalcourt is on the practice squad and not eligible to play.

· Trevon Diggs started at cornerback for the Cowboys. Diggs made six tackles.

· Marlon Humphrey (Hoover) started at cornerback for the Ravens. Humphrey made one tackle, registered one quarterback hit and broke up two pass.

· Ravens safety Eddie Jackson made two tackles.

In the other Sunday games:

New York Giants 21, Cleveland Browns 15

· Browns cornerback Tony Brown made two tackles on special teams and forced a fumble on the opening kickoff in his 2024 debut. Cleveland recovered the fumble at the New York 24-yard line and scored a touchdown on the next snap. The Browns elevated Brown from the practice squad to make him eligible to play.

· Browns guard Javion Cohen (Central-Phenix City) was designated as a game-day inactive.

· Amari Cooper started at wide receiver for the Browns. Cooper had seven receptions for 86 yards and two touchdowns. Cooper caught a 24-yard touchdown pass with 14:49 left in the first quarter and a 6-yard touchdown pass with 11:33 left in the fourth quarter.

· Jerome Ford started at running back for the Browns. Ford ran for 37 yards on 10 carries and caught three passes for 33 yards.

· Jerry Jeudy started at wide receiver for the Browns. Jeudy had four receptions for 27 yards and caught a 2-point conversion pass.

· Browns tight end Cameron Latu is on the practice squad and not eligible to play.

· Giants offensive tackle Evan Neal dressed but did not play.

· Dalvin Tomlinson started at defensive tackle for the Browns. Tomlinson registered two quarterback hits.

· Jedrick Wills Jr. started at left offensive tackle for the Browns. Wills played for the first time since Nov. 5, 2023, when he sustained a knee injury.

Indianapolis Colts 21, Chicago Bears 16

· Colts defensive tackle Raekwon Davis made three tackles and recorded one tackle for loss.

· Colts safety Ronnie Harrison is on the practice squad and not eligible to play.

· Ryan Kelly started at center for the Colts.

Minnesota Vikings 34, Houston Texans 7

· Will Anderson Jr. started at defensive end for the Texans. Anderson made two tackles, recorded one sack and registered one tackle for loss.

· Texans linebacker Christian Harris is on injured reserve and not eligible to play.

· Texans wide receiver John Metchie III was designated as a game-day inactive.

· Vikings kicker Will Reichard (Hoover) stayed perfect three games into his rookie season by making his six kicks against Houston – four extra points and two field goals. Reichard connected on a 35-yard field goal with 14:53 left to play and a 58-yard field goal with 4:43 remaining. The 58-yarder ranks as the second-longest in Minnesota history behind a 61-yarder by Greg Joseph in 2022 against the New York Giants.

· Henry To’oTo’o started at linebacker for the Texans. To’oTo’o made five tackles.

· Vikings outside linebacker Dallas Turner was designated as a game-day inactive. The rookie sustained a knee injury in last week’s game that prevented him from practicing over the past week.

Philadelphia Eagles 15, New Orleans Saints 12

· Landon Dickerson started at left guard for the Eagles.

· Jalen Hurts started at quarterback for the Eagles. Hurts completed 29-of-38 passes for 311 yards with no touchdowns and one interception and ran eight times for 25 yards. He also lost a fumble on a sack.

· Saints cornerback Ga’Quincy “Kool-Aid” McKinstry (Pinson Valley) did not record any stats.

· Eagles cornerback Eli Ricks was designated as a game-day inactive.

· DeVonta Smith started at wide receiver for the Eagles. Smith had seven receptions for 79 yards before leaving the game in the fourth quarter to be evaluated for a concussion. He did not return.

· Eagles offensive lineman Tyler Steen played the second half at right guard after Mekhi Becton left the game with a finger injury.

Pittsburgh Steelers 20, Los Angeles Chargers 10

· Steelers cornerback Anthony Averett is on the practice squad and not eligible to play.

· Bradley Bozeman (Handley) started at center for the Chargers. Bozeman was charged with a fumble, which Los Angeles recovered, on an aborted snap.

· Chargers defensive lineman Justin Eboigbe was designated as a game-day inactive.

· Minkah Fitzpatrick started at free safety for the Steelers. Fitzpatrick made two tackles.

· Najee Harris started at running back for the Steelers. Harris ran for 70 yards on 18 carries and caught five passes for 16 yards.

· Chargers offensive lineman Alex Leatherwood is on the practice squad and not eligible to play.

· Chargers punter JK Scott averaged 50.0 yards on seven punts, with a 47.1-yard net. Scott had a 47-yard punt for a fair catch at the Pittsburgh 21-yard line, a 63-yarder returned 13 yards to the Pittsburgh 24, a 46-yarder for a fair catch at the Pittsburgh 14, a 39-yarder for a fair catch at the Los Angeles 46, a 55-yarder for a fair catch at the Pittsburgh 15, a 41-yarder for a fair catch at the Pittsburgh 16 and a 59-yarder returned 7 yards to the Pittsburgh 32.

· Patrick Surtain II started at left cornerback for the Broncos. Surtain made two tackles.

Green Bay Packers 30, Tennessee Titans 14

· Josh Jacobs started at running back for the Packers. Jacobs ran for 43 yards on 14 carries and caught a 5-yard pass.

· J.C. Latham started at left offensive tackle for the Titans.

· Xavier McKinney started at safety for the Packers. McKinney made four tackles on defense, had one special-teams tackle and intercepted one pass. McKinney became the first player to record an interception in each of the first three games in a season since former Samford star Cortland Finnegan did so for the St. Louis Rams in 2012.

· Titans wide receiver Calvin Ridley had a 9-yard reception.

Carolina Panthers 36, Las Vegas Raiders 22

· LaBryan Ray (James Clemens) started at defensive end for the Panthers. Ray made four tackles and recorded the first sack of his NFL career.

· A’Shawn Robinson started at defensive end for the Panthers. Robinson made three tackles.

· Panthers quarterback Bryce Young dressed for the game but did not play. Young served as the backup quarterback after losing the starting spot to Andy Dalton after Week 2. Dalton threw for 319 yards and three touchdowns against Las Vegas.

Seattle Seahawks 24, Miami Dolphins 3

· Dolphins Lester Cotton (Central-Tuscaloosa) did not record any stats.

· Dolphins defensive tackle Da’Shawn Hand made five tackles and recorded the fifth sack of his NFL career. Hand had not had that many tackles in a game since Sept. 16, 2018, in the second game of his NFL career.

· Seahawks cornerback Josh Jobe is on the practice squad and not eligible to play.

· Seahawks nose tackle Jarran Reed made four tackles, recorded his first sack of the season and 35th of his career and registered two quarterback hits.

· Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa is on injured reserve and not eligible to play.

· Jaylen Waddle started at wide receiver for the Dolphins. Waddle had four receptions for 26 yards.

Detroit Lions 20, Arizona Cardinals 13

· Terrion Arnold started at cornerback for the Lions. Arnold made two tackles and broke up one pass.

· Brian Branch started at safety for the Lions. Branch led Detroit with nine tackles, recorded one tackle for loss and broke up two passes.

· Lions running back Jahmyr Gibbs ran for 83 yards on 16 carries and had 20 receiving yards and a touchdown without catching a pass. Detroit wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown caught a pass from quarterback Jared Goff for a 1-yard gain, then flipped the football to Gibbs, who ran the final 20 yards to the end zone on a hook-and-lateral play with 29 seconds left in the first half as the Lions took a 20-7 lead.

· Lions wide receiver Jameson Williams had a 9-yard reception and a rushing attempt that lost 7 yards.

· Cardinals offensive tackle Jonah Williams is on injured reserve and not eligible to play.

· Mack Wilson (Carver-Montgomery) started at inside linebacker for the Cardinals. Wilson made eight tackles, recorded one sack and registered one tackle for loss. Wilson’s first sack of the season was the seventh of his career.

Los Angeles Rams 27, San Francisco 49ers 24

· Rams tight end Miller Forristall is on the practice squad and not eligible to play.

Kansas City Chiefs 22, Atlanta Falcons 17
