Alabama NFL roundup: Najee Harris breaks loose for Steelers

   

Running back Najee Harris entered the Pittsburgh Steelers’ Sunday game against the Las Vegas Raiders with 270 yards on 82 rushing attempts in five outings this season.

In the Steelers’ 32-13 victory over the Raiders, Harris took a step toward his fourth consecutive 1,000-yard season by running for 106 yards and one touchdown on 14 carries. He also had two receptions for 16 yards.

In the seventh 100-yard rushing game of Harris’ career, the former Alabama All-American scored his first touchdown of the season on a 36-yard run as Pittsburgh took a 22-7 lead with 4:21 left in the third quarter.

Harris was among the 45 former Alabama players who got on the field on the sixth Sunday of the NFL’s 105th season.

Two other former Alabama players were involved in the Pittsburgh-Las Vegas game:

· Steelers cornerback Anthony Averett is on the practice squad and not eligible to play.

· Minkah Fitzpatrick started at free safety for the Steelers. Fitzpatrick made four tackles.

In the other Sunday games:

Chicago Bears 35, Jacksonville Jaguars 16

· Jaguars quarterback Mac Jones took over from Trevor Lawrence for Jacksonville’s final possession. Jones had a 6-yard completion on second down, but he was sacked on third down.

· Cam Robinson started at left offensive tackle for the Jaguars.

· Jaguars running back Keilan Robinson is on injured reserve and not eligible to play.

Baltimore Ravens 30, Washington Commanders 23

· Jonathan Allen started at defensive tackle for the Commanders. Allen made two tackles. He left the game in the second half with a pectoral injury and did not return.

· Ravens cornerback Jalyn Armour-Davis (St. Paul’s Episcopal) is on injured reserve and not eligible to play.

· Ravens guard Darrian Dalcourt is on the practice squad and not eligible to play.

· Derrick Henry started at running back for the Ravens. Henry ran for 132 yards and two touchdowns on 24 carries. Henry scored on a 3-yard run as Baltimore took a 10-3 lead with 7:55 left in the first half and on a 7-yard run as the Ravens went ahead 27-13 with 2:08 left in the third quarter. Henry became the fourth player in NFL history with 20 games with at least 100 rushing yards and two rushing touchdowns. The only players with more are in the Pro Football Hall of Fame – Jim Brown and LaDainian Tomlinson with 25 apiece and Emmitt Smith with 21. Henry also became the first player with a rushing touchdown in each of his team’s first six games since Tomlinson in 2005.

· Marlon Humphrey (Hoover) started at cornerback for the Ravens. Humphrey led Baltimore with nine tackles, recorded one tackle for loss and broke up one pass.

· Ravens safety Eddie Jackson made three tackles.

· Commanders defensive tackle Phidarian Mathis made two tackles and recorded one tackle for loss.

· Daron Payne (Shades Valley) started at defensive tackle for the Commanders. Payne did not record any stats.

· Commanders running back Brian Robinson Jr. (Hillcrest-Tuscaloosa) was designated as a game-day inactive. A knee injury kept Robinson out of the lineup.

Green Bay Packers 34, Arizona Cardinals 13

· Josh Jacobs started at running back for the Packers. Jacobs ran for 62 yards on 18 carries and caught three passes for 28 yards.

· Xavier McKinney started at safety for the Packers. McKinney made four tackles. The safety’s streak of six games with an interception ended on Sunday.

· Cardinals offensive tackle Jonah Williams is on injured reserve and not eligible to play.

· Mack Wilson (Carver-Montgomery) started at inside linebacker for the Cardinals. Wilson made seven tackles and broke up a pass even though he left the game to be checked for an injury in first half.

Houston Texans 41, New England Patriots 21

· Will Anderson Jr. started at defensive end for the Texans. Anderson tied for the Houston lead in tackles with a career-high eight, recorded three sacks, made four tackles for loss and broke up one pass. Anderson had made six tackles in a game twice in his career, and he had two two-sack games before Sunday. Anderson became the third player with four tackles for loss in a game this season.

· Patriots wide receiver Javon Baker was designated as a game-day inactive.

· Patriots defensive tackle Christian Barmore is on the non-football illness list and not eligible to play.

· Texans linebacker Christian Harris is on injured reserve and not eligible to play.

· Anfernee Jennings (Dadeville) started at outside linebacker for the Patriots. Jennings made five tackles, recorded one tackle for loss and registered one quarterback hit.

· Texans wide receiver John Metchie III did not record any stats.

· Henry To’oTo’o started at linebacker for the Texans. To’oTo’o made seven tackles.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers 51, New Orleans Saints 27

· Buccaneers safety Marcus Banks is on the practice squad and not eligible to play.

· Buccaneers outside linebacker Chris Braswell made three tackles, shared one sack and registered two quarterback hits. The sack was the first of Braswell’s career. He joined Tampa Bay in the second round of the NFL Draft on April 26.

· Saints cornerback Ga’Quincy “Kool-Aid” McKinstry (Pinson Valley) made three tackles and broke up one pass.

Philadelphia Eagles 20, Cleveland Browns 16

· Browns cornerback Tony Brown did not record any stats.

· Browns guard Javion Cohen (Central-Phenix City) is on the practice squad and not eligible to play.

· Amari Cooper started at wide receiver for the Browns. Cooper had four receptions for 42 yards.

· Landon Dickerson started at left guard for the Eagles.

· Jerome Ford started at running back for the Browns. Ford had two carries for 14 yards before leaving the game with a hamstring injury.

· Jalen Hurts started at quarterback for the Eagles. Hurts completed 16-of-25 passes for 264 yards with two touchdowns and no interceptions and ran for 33 yards on 14 carries. Hurts threw a 22-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver A.J. Brown as Philadelphia took a 10-0 lead with 7:17 left in the first half and a 45-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver DeVonta Smith as the Eagles went up 20-13 with 7:54 remaining.

· Jerry Jeudy started at wide receiver for the Browns. Jeudy had a 35-yard reception.

· Browns tight end Cameron Latu is on the practice squad and not eligible to play.

· Eagles cornerback Eli Ricks was designated as a game-day inactive.

· DeVonta Smith started at wide receiver for the Eagles. Smith had three receptions for 64 yards and one touchdown. Back after missing one game because of a concussion, Smith turned a short pass from quarterback Jalen Hurts into a 45-yard touchdown to break a 13-13 tie with 7:53 left in the game.

· Eagles offensive lineman Tyler Steen did not record any stats.

· Dalvin Tomlinson started at defensive tackle for the Browns. Tomlinson made one tackle.

· Jedrick Wills Jr. started at left offensive tackle for the Browns.

Indianapolis Colts 20, Tennessee Titans 17

· Colts defensive tackle Raekwon Davis broke up one pass.

· Colts safety Ronnie Harrison is on the practice squad and not eligible to play.

· Ryan Kelly started at center for the Colts. Kelly left the game with a calf injury in the second half and did not return.

· J.C. Latham started at left offensive tackle for the Titans.

· Calvin Ridley started at wide receiver for the Titans. Although he was targeted eight times, Ridley did not have a reception. He did have a 9-yard run.

Los Angeles Chargers 23, Denver Broncos 16

· Bradley Bozeman (Handley) started at center for the Chargers.

· Chargers defensive tackle Justin Eboigbe dressed for the game but did not play.

· Chargers offensive lineman Alex Leatherwood is on the practice squad and not eligible to play.

· Broncos linebacker Drew Sanders is on the physically-unable-to-perform list and not eligible to play.

· Chargers punter JK Scott averaged 39.8 yards on four punts, with a net of 37.3 yards. Scott had a 40-yard punt for a fair catch at the Denver 18-yard line, a 37-yarder out of bounds at the Denver 5, a 43-yarder returned 10 yards to the Denver 36 and 39-yarder downed at the 4-yard line. Scott’s final three punts came in the fourth quarter.

· Patrick Surtain II started at left cornerback for the Broncos. Surtain broke up one pass. Surtain left the game in the first quarter to be evaluated for a concussion and did not return.

· Broncos cornerback Levi Wallace made one tackle and broke up one pass.

Atlanta Falcons 38, Carolina Panthers 20

· Falcons safety DeMarcco Hellams is on injured reserve and not eligible to play.

· Falcons running back Jase McClellan was designated as a game-day inactive.

· Panthers defensive end LaBryan Ray (James Clemens) did not record any stats.

· A’Shawn Robinson started at defensive end for the Panthers. Robinson made four tackles and registered one quarterback hit.

· Panthers quarterback Bryce Young dressed for the game but did not play.

Detroit Lions 47, Dallas Cowboys 9

· Terrion Arnold started at cornerback for the Lions. Arnold made two tackles, broke up one tackle and recovered one tackle. Arnold recovered a fumble at the Detroit 28-yard line with 4:54 left in the third quarter.

 

· Brian Branch started at safety for the Lions. Branch made six tackles, registered one quarterback hit, intercepted two passes and forced one fumble. Branch intercepted Dallas quarterback Dak Prescott in the end zone with 4:34 left in the first quarter with Detroit leading 7-3. Branch intercepted Prescott again with 13:22 left in the fourth quarter, and he returned it 47 yards to the Cowboys 4-yard line to set up a touchdown.

· Trevon Diggs started at cornerback for the Cowboys. Diggs made three tackles.

· Lions running back Jahmyr Gibbs ran for 63 yards on 12 carries and had three receptions for 28 yards.

 

· Jameson Williams started at wide receiver for the Lions. Williams had three receptions for 76 yards and one touchdown and an 11-yard run. Williams scored on a 37-yard pass from quarterback Jared Goff as Detroit took a 34-6 lead with 12:35 left in the third quarter.

 

Cincinnati Bengals 17, New York Giants 7

· Bengals safety Jordan Battle made four tackles.

· Bengals wide receiver Jermaine Burton was designated as a game-day inactive.

· Giants offensive tackle Evan Neal dressed for the game but did not play.

Week 6 started on Thursday night, when the San Francisco 49ers defeated the Seattle Seahawks 36-24.

Week 6 concludes on Monday, when the Buffalo Bills and New York Jets square off at 7:15 p.m. CDT at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey. ESPN will televise the game.
