Alabama football bolstered its linebacking core on Saturday, landing a transfer portal commitment from Colorado. Nikhai Hill-Green announced he’ll be joining the Crimson Tide, after one season in Boulder.
He confirmed the news on his social media accounts. Hill-Green was Alabama’s third portal addition of the day, joining Kam Dewberry, an offensive lineman from Texas A&M and former Miami wide receiver Isaiah Horton.
Hill-Green will have one season of eligibility remaining in Tuscaloosa. He earned second-team All-Big 12 honors for the Buffaloes in his one season playing for CU head coach Deion Sanders.
The 6-foot-2, 230-pound Hill-Green began his college career by spending three seasons at Michigan, where current UA general manager Courtney Morgan was on staff. He eventually transferred to Charlotte, where he made third-team All-AAC, prompting a return to a power conference.
Hill-Green made 82 total tackles throughout the 2024 season, including two sacks. He also intercepted two passes for Colorado, which will finish its year in the Alamo Bowl after going 9-3.
The addition of Hill-Green has the potential to greatly help an Alabama linebacking group that could be depleted for the 2025 season. Both Deontae Lawson, who missed the latter part of this season due to an injury, and Jihaad Campbell are draft-eligible, and Hill-Green’s presence could assuage those potential losses.
The transfer portal remains open for undergraduate entry through Dec. 28. Alabama players will have an additional short window following the end of the season to enter.
The Crimson Tide’s 2024 season will end Dec. 31 in Tampa, when UA faces Michigan in the ReliaQuest Bowl. That game is scheduled to kick off at 11 a.m. CT that day at Raymond James Stadium, and will be aired on ESPN.
