Alabama defenders want to see this change before the snap

Alabama football defenders have a small change they would like to see that could help.

Malachi Moore's antics brings uncomfortable questions about culture under DeBoer

Malachi Moore, a captain and safety, said the overall feedback from players has been that defenders want to get calls in quicker. Moore said he’s heard that from the d-line all the way to the secondary.

“Just get the call in a little bit quicker,” Moore said. “It gives us time to line up and go with the man in front of us.”

Alabama is fresh off a performance where the defense struggled against Vanderbilt in the loss. The Commodores had more than 42 minutes in time of possession as the Crimson Tide defense struggled to get off the field. Vanderbilt converted 12 of 18 third downs against a defense that had only allowed 11 through the previous four games.

On Tuesday, Moore was asked about what Alabama defensive coordinator Kane Wommack has emphasized improving on the defense. Moore mentioned getting the calls in quicker.

“I just think sometimes, we get the call in a little late,” Moore said. “It gives us a little anxiety of not knowing what the offense is going to run or adjusting to their formations. Coach (Wommack), that kind of was his style of calling, wanting to put us in the perfect position. He knows that we’re at ‘Bama now, and he has a lot of pieces. He doesn’t have to compensate for anything. As long as he gives us the call and allows us to get our feet in the dirt, we’re going to be great.”

Moore said Wommack, the defensive coordinator, has been taking accountability this week after the Vanderbilt loss as well as the other defensive coaches.
