Alabama basketball star added to injury report before Mississippi State

Alabama men’s basketball added starting forward Grant Nelson to the SEC availability report released Monday night before the Mississippi State game.

Nelson was listed as probable, which bodes well for his chances of playing despite being added to the injury report.

This season, Nelson is averaging 12.2 points, 7.9 rebounds, 1.7 assists and 1.3 blocks per game for Alabama.

He is one of four Alabama players listed on Monday night’s availability report in addition to Derrion Reid (out), Latrell Wrightsell Jr. (out) and Houston Mallette (out). Wrightsell and Mallette have been designated that way on every availability report. Wrightsell is out for the year with an injury and Mallette is expected to redshirt.

Alabama coach Nate Oats said Monday that Reid would be out again for this game.

No. 6 Alabama (22-5, 11-3 SEC) just beat Kentucky 96-83 at Coleman Coliseum this past Saturday.

The Crimson Tide will now face No. 24 Mississippi State on Tuesday (8 p.m. CT, ESPN 2) at Coleman Coliseum. Alabama is looking to complete another sweep, having won the first matchup of the season against the Bulldogs 88-84 on Jan. 29.
