AJ Brown played a cruel trick on Philadelphia Eagles fans with a social media video he posted on Thursday night.
In a video he shared on Instagram, Brown dramatically unveiled a No. 11 New England Patriots jersey and told his followers “the wait is over.” The star wide receiver was clearly trying to make people think he had joined the Patriots, but that, of course, is not the case.
Brown quickly turned the jersey around to reveal that it was an autographed jersey he received from Julian Edelman, who wore No. 11 during his legendary run with the Patriots.
Brown joked that he knew he caused a momentary panic among Eagles fans. He also showed off a Tom Brady jersey that he was sent with some sort of autograph on it.
There have been rumblings this offseason that the Patriots could pursue a trade for Brown. The three-time Pro Bowl wideout is obviously aware of those reports, which is why he knew the image of him holding up a Patriots jersey would elicit a big reaction.
Brown has always been a huge Brady fan, and apparently he loves Edelman as well. Brown once admitted that he was devastated when New England did not draft him out of college.
Brown also began his career with the Tennessee Titans when Mike Vrabel was the coach there. Vrabel is now the head coach of the Patriots, so there are even more connections between Brown and New England.
For now, Brown is still an Eagle. Fans in Philly can exhale.
