The Pittsburgh Steelers had a slew of self-inflicted wounds in Sunday’s 27-24 loss to the Indianapolis Colts, and George Pickens’ fumble at the Colts’ 3-yard line might’ve been the biggest one. That’s in the rearview mirror for Pickens now, however. He’s just focused on Sunday night’s game against the Dallas Cowboys at Acrisure Stadium.
“Just thinking about Dallas this week — the team we play Sunday night,” he said when asked about his fumble at the 3-yard line.
George Pickens declined interview requests after the game, so this was the first chance to hear from him about the fumble.
“Just thinking about Dallas this week,” Pickens repeated when asked how to avoid another fumble against Dallas. “A fumble like that, you just want to do ball security [drills]. I think every team coaches that around the league.”
Pickens is not concerned about the slow starts from the offense this year. The Steelers spotted the Colts 17 points in the first half and faced a 14-point deficit in the fourth quarter.
“We’re really focused on the Cowboys, to be honest,” he said.
Pickens will be matched up against Cowboys All-Pro cornerback Trevon Diggs on Sunday night. It’s a test that he looks forward to.
“He’s a good player,” Pickens said. “He’s a good player, for sure.”
“They play a lot of Cover 3, Cover 4 type team,” Pickens added. “They don’t do too much man [coverage], even though they have Trevon [Diggs]. All we can do is attack kind of like we did last week if they play a lot of zone.”
Pickens had his way with Denver Broncos All-Pro cornerback Patrick Surtain II in Week 2. So the Diggs matchup certainly will be a battle to watch. The other side of the ball also has an intriguing wide receiver-cornerback matchup with All-Pro wide receiver CeeDee Lamb against Joey Porter Jr.
