Adam Peters throws massive Commanders' curveball in recent NFL Draft pitch

The Washington Commanders are keeping all options open entering the 2025 NFL Draft. Adam Peters isn't known for tipping his hand, with the football operation being run in almost complete secrecy with few leaks emanating from the franchise.

That hasn't stopped analysts and fans from speculating which direction the Commanders could go. And one recent prediction thought Peters might have the luxury of a curveball at No. 29 overall.

Peters made a concerted effort to surround quarterback Jayden Daniels with everything needed to thrive further this offseason. The Commanders are pushing their chips into the middle to maximize the window of his rookie contract. Some notable acquisitions should ensure the NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year continues his rapid ascent to legitimate superstardom.

The Commanders could continue this trend during the draft. Adding to the offensive line is plausible. The running back spot remains an overlooked yet critical need. There's also the possibility of Washington adding another wide receiver with the physical attributes others don't have on the depth chart.

Commanders projected to take Jayden Higgins in major NFL Draft surprise

This was a topic discussed by Dalton Wasserman from Pro Football Focus. The analyst pitched a massive draft curveball for the Commanders, with Jayden Higgins touted as someone who could round off the receiver room nicely.

Adding another weapon like Jayden Higgins — who earned a perfect 99.9 intermediate receiving grade last season — would give Jayden Daniels the ability to consistently attack all three levels of the defense. Terry McLaurin could continue stretching the field as a deep threat, while Deebo Samuel thrives underneath with yards after the catch. Higgins’ ability to win in isolation would bring yet another dynamic element to an already dangerous offense.Dalton Wasserman

Higgins is projected to be a Day 2 selection by most analysts. But with the Commanders picking at No. 61 overall, taking him at No. 29 might not be so far-fetched if they believe he won't last that long.

The wideout has a lot of physical traits that should intrigue the Commanders. Higgins boasts a unique blend of size, strength, and explosiveness. At 6-foot-4 and 214 pounds, the Iowa State prospect represents a matchup nightmare when everything clicks. More importantly, he backs this up with outstanding production and a 4.47-second speed in the 40-yard dash.

There's a lot to like about Higgins' route development. His tree is expanding, and he knows how to get open at all three levels. The prospect can stretch the field, can get off press coverage situations easily, and has a good sense of the soft spots in zone schemes for good measure.

His wide wingspan makes him a supreme red-zone threat. When Higgins improves his release package and blocking, someone is going to have a tremendous player on their hands.

The Commanders might think they have enough. Terry McLaurin, Deebo Samuel Sr., Luke McCaffrey, Noah Brown, Michael Gallup, and K.J. Osborn are the options right now. Higgins wouldn't be a bad option to place alongside this fivesome, but Peters could have other needs to address with his first-round pick.

It's a fascinating decision for Peters. And Commanders fans will be waiting with bated breath to see what conclusions are made.
