Abdul Carter, the preeminent defensive player in the NFL Draft, took to social media Friday morning to get inside the heads of New York Giants general manager Joe Schoen and head coach Brian Daboll.
Carter posted a photo of Pro Football Hall of Famer Lawrence Taylor on his X account with the caption, "Once a Giant, always a Giant."
The draft is less than two weeks away and Carter had dinner with the Giants brass Thursday night before his formal 30 visit at the team facility on Friday.
As he was getting the tour of the Giants facility, he saw a picture of Taylor on the wall, photographed it and then plastered it on his social media account to let the world know where he wants to play pro football.
Carter could not have found a better Giants alum to try to emulate. Taylor is one of the greatest football players in NFL history. He was an eight-time Pro Bowler, a two-time Super Bowl champion and amassed 132.5 sacks over 12 seasons. The three-time Defensive Player of the Year won the NFL Most Valuable Player Award in 1986.
It appears as though the Giants have the inside track to Carter, despite having the third selection. Cam Ward should go to the Tennessee Titans with the first pick. Travis Hunter has emerged as the favorite to be drafted by the Cleveland Browns at No. 2. That should open the door for the Giants to select Carter with the third selection.
Anything could happen on draft night and the Giants will probably cement their final opinion over the next week. The fact they have met with Carter so often and have invested so much time in him, might be telling and it might also be a rouge.
