The Green Bay Packers did not address the defensive side of the football in the 2025 NFL Draft until the fourth round. With a struggling pass rush during the 2024 NFL season, this came as a surprise for Green Bay to not address the position until then.

General manager Brian Gutekunst is banking on what he currently has on the roster to produce next season. One player who became a free agent was edge rusher Jadeveon Clowney. He has been with several teams in the NFL and there is a chance he could go elsewhere after being released by the Carolina Panthers. Should the Packers make a move for the edge rusher before the 2025 NFL season?
Green Bay Packers Urged To Sign Jadeveon Clowey In Free Agency

Wendell Ferreira of atozsports.com talked about the fact that the Packers should sign Clowney in free agency now that he was released. Ferreira said as to why Green Bay should make this move during the offseason,
“If the Green Bay Packers had used a top pick to select an edge defender, it wouldn’t be a surprise. They didn’t, though, not at least taking Barryn Sorrell in the fourth round. So even though the Packers don’t see defensive end as a need, it doesn’t mean they can’t add another piece to the room.
Now, a significant market opportunity has arisen. The Carolina Panthers decided to release edge rusher Jadeveon Clowney, the former first overall pick who has made the pro bowl three times in his career.”
During the 2024 NFL season, he recorded 46 tackles, 5.5 sacks, and four pass deflections. It would be interesting to see if the Packers would add to the room before the 2025 NFL season. They do more help on the defensive line and Clowney has been up and down during his NFL. Signing Clowney and trying to make it work would be better for the Packers than not making a move for another pass rusher at all.
