The Chicago Bears finished with a 5-12 record this season in the NFL and in last place in the NFC North. Many thought that the Bears were going to be a playoff team this past season and they were not even close to being one.

Chicago will need to make some changes to the personnel this offseason. One potential name that they could sign on the free agent market is offensive lineman Trey Smith from the Kansas City Chiefs. New head coach Ben Johnson had an elite offensive line when he was with the Detroit Lions as the offensive coordinator.
The33rdteam Makes a Case For Trey Smith To Sign With the Chicago Bears

There are a few NFL teams that will need interior offensive line help this offseason. Chicago still needs to fix its interior offensive line. One name that could fix a lot of their interior problems is Kansas City Chiefs guard Trey Smith.
He will be one of the top and most expensive free agents on the open market this offseason. Tyler Brooke of the33rdteam.com said about the Chicago Bears making a play for Smith:
“Ryan Poles spent last offseason adding as many weapons as possible for rookie QB Caleb Williams, but what the team really needs is a reliable offensive line to make things easier for the former No. 1 overall pick.
No quarterback in the NFL took more sacks in 2024 than Williams. On top of a league-leading 68 sacks, he had the highest pressure-to-sack ratio in the league among quarterbacks with at least 400 dropbacks, getting sacked on 28.2 percent of his pressures.
Williams spent too much of the 2024 season focusing on making plays, which ended up hurting the offense more than it helped. A more stable offensive line, along with a genius offensive mind in new head coach Ben Johnson, could fix a lot of those problems.
The Chicago Bears have the sixth-most cap space in the league this offseason, so they can afford to make a strong offer to a player like Smith to start filling out the offensive line.”
What the Chicago Bears need to do is to get Caleb Williams help upfront so he could make better decisions with the football moving forward. He completed 62.5% of his passes for 3,541 yards, 20 touchdowns, and six interceptions. Williams also rushed for 489 yards on 81 carries and zero touchdowns, along with averaging 6.0 yards per rush.
Other Destinations

A couple of other teams that could use help on the offensive line are the Tennessee Titans and the Houston Texans. Chicago is a team that is looking to make it to the playoffs next season. Tennessee would not make sense for Trey Smith at all.
The Houston Texans would be an interesting destination for Trey Smith because they have quarterback C.J. Stroud and they have Super Bowl expectations. The Kansas City Chiefs could very well lose him and it would be a surprise if they re-signed him.
