The Las Vegas Raiders have been mentioned as a team that could trade for Miami Dolphins star cornerback, Jalen Ramsey.
Ramsey is officially on the trade block this offseason, the Dolphins revealed, and it figures to be a matter of time before he's sent packing.
One possible destination is the Raiders, according to Sportsnaut's Moe Moton, who points out the potentially shaky situation Las Vegas has at cornerback.
The Raiders have a young cornerback room that includes Jakorian Bennett, Decamerion Richardson and rookie Darien Porter. The Athletic’s Tashan Reed noted that Bennett has lined up with the second-team defense while returning from a season-ending shoulder injury at OTAs.
Ramsey would immediately improve the Raiders pass defense as a starter on the boundary who can also line up in the slot. In 2024, he didn’t make the AFC Pro Bowl roster but still logged 11 pass breakups and two interceptions while allowing an 83.2 passer rating in coverage.
Bennett figures to be one of the favorites to start after his second-year breakout, but he's no guarantee, either, and has been working with the second-team defense as he works his way back from injury.
Aside from Bennett, the Raiders have unproven guys like Decamerion Richardson and 2025 draft pick Darien Porter, and disappointing former first-round pick, Eric Stokes, who was signed in free agency to offer more competition on the outside.
Ramsey would immediately give the Raiders the proven starting option they need, and as Moton notes, he can play in the slot, where Las Vegas has another question mark with Darnay Holmes currently penciled in to play there.
Ramsey is getting up there in age but showed he's still got plenty of juice left in the tank after an effective 2024 showing that saw him surrender a completion rate of 62% and a passer rating of 83.2.
One of the roadblocks for a Ramsey trade is the guaranteed money he has left on his deal, all of which comes in 2025. However, that wouldn't be an issue for the Raiders, a team that has $36.1 million in cap space at the moment.
Ramsey has no more guaranteed money left on the remainder of his $72 million contract after this season, so there is little future risk involved in acquiring him.
