7-round mock draft: Rams trade out of first round

The Los Angeles Rams seem to prefer having more picks on day three than day two and day one combined, which is a fact that is utilized heavily in this seven-round mock draft. Chris Trapasso of CBS Sports posted a full 7-round mock draft on Tuesday and he had the Rams trading down twice from their original first round pick at 26, eventually starting in the middle of round two.

That part is quite believable. Taking a wide receiver with their first pick may be a harder sell.

Trapasso first has the Rams trading down from 26 to 36 by getting back pick 70 and 126 from the Jacksonville Jaguars. They then trade down from 36 to 47 in a deal with the Cardinals. Later, the Rams trade down again, this time so that the NY Jets can move up.

Overall, the Rams end up with 12 picks in this 7-round mock draft.

2.47 - WR Jack Bech, TCU (via Jags/Cardinals trade)

3.70 - LB Chris Paul, Jr., Ole Miss (via Jags trade)

3.78 - TE Harold Fannin, Jr., Bowling Green (via trade with Cardinals)

3.101 - DT Deone Walker, Kentucky

4.110 - CB Zah Frazier, UTSA (via Jets trade down)

4.126 - OT Anthony Belton, NC State (via Jags trade)

4.127 - QB Will Howard, Ohio State

6.186 - LB Jack Kiser, Notre Dame (via Jets trade)

6.190 - CB Alijah Huzzie, UNC

6.195 - LB Jay Higgins, Iowa

6.201 - G Jake Majors, Texas

6.202 - CB Mello Dotson, Kansas

7 new players on defense

This mock draft adds seven players to defense, including three linebackers and three cornerbacks. The star of the bunch is Paul, a 6’1, 222 lb player out of Ole Miss who was a third-team All-American in 2024 but is not one of the best athletes in the draft at the position.

Is he going to be an upgrade over what L.A. currently has at linebacker? Maybe in time.

Frazier is the opposite at corner, bringing 4.36 speed to the position at a 6’3 frame, albeit at 186 lbs. Is Frazier the next Tariq Woolen?

Will Howard to Jack Bech?

We know Bech as one of the standouts at the Senior Bowl. The 6’1, 214 lb receiver posted good times in the three-cone and short shuttle and he had over 1,000 yards in 2024. But he’s not a burner.

And Howard will get a lot of attention because he’s a QB and he won the national championship. That would give the Rams two national champion QBs who weren’t highly rated as draft prospects. Lance Zierlein compares Howard to Blake Bortles, another former Rams QB.
