3 Free Agents Philadelphia Eagles Could Still Pursue Heading Into Camp

With veterans and rookies set to report on July 22, the Philadelphia Eagles could still address a few minor needs.

Ogbo Okoronkwo

While the foundation of the team is as solid as solid gets, Philly could still use more depth at wide receiver and along the edge of the defensive line. At wide receiver, A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith remain elite, but the addition of Jahan Dotson hasn’t given Philly the dependable WR3 or slot option it needs.

On the defensive side, the Eagles’ edge rotation took a hit with offseason departures (Brandon Graham and Josh Sweat, to name a few), so they’ll be relying on younger talent like Nolan Smith. Despite a strong pass rush in 2024, adding a veteran rotational edge rusher could help stabilize the group.

Considering their needs heading into training camp, we put together a short list of players who could give the Eagles a little extra juice.

NOTE: We’ll leave Justin Simmons off simply because that idea has been done too much.

Keenan Allen, WR

Keenan Allen, Los Angeles Rams

One possible solution for the receiver room is veteran Keenan Allen. Though now 33, Allen is no spring chicken, but he remains one of the most technically sound route runners in the NFL. He has over 10,000 career receiving yards over his career, and his experience and reliable hands would bring stability to the slot and provide an ideal complement to Brown and Smith.

After a so-so 2024 season with the Bears (70 catches, 744 yards, seven TDs), Allen is likely available at a team-friendly cost. The Eagles could use a veteran presence who thrives on third downs and in the red zone, especially if Dotson fails to develop into a consistent contributor. Allen could be that guy.

Ogbo Okoronkwo, EDGE

Browns defensive end Ogbo Okoronkwo.

On the defensive front, Ogbo Okoronkwo could be a savvy addition. The former Browns and Texans pass rusher has never logged more than 5.0 sacks in a single season, but he could be a solid rotational option.

He was released by Cleveland in June, and Okoronkwo is looking for a new home. No doubt playing for the defending world champs would intrigue him. He could provide some insurance behind Nolan Smith and Jalyx Hunt, and he’d be a good fit in Vic Fangio’s defense. Plus, his availability at a discount makes him especially appealing.

Gabe Davis, WR

Gabe Davis

Gabe Davis is another intriguing free agent target for Philly. Best known for his explosive playoff performances with the Buffalo Bills, including an 84-yard postseason touchdown, Davis had a frustrating 2024 season in Jacksonville due to a torn meniscus that limited him to just 10 games and 20 catches for 239 yards.

Still only 26, Davis offers the kind of big-play potential and vertical threat that could stretch defenses and complement the Eagles’ existing weapons. He could immediately slide into the WR3 role and give QB Jalen Hurts another reliable deep-ball target.

If the Eagles can bring in even one of these three veterans—Allen for his route-running and slot skills, Okoronkwo for edge depth, or Davis for his explosive upside—they’ll address some of the few soft spots left on an otherwise championship-ready roster.
