Baltimore Ravens running back Derrick Henry received one first-place vote and finished fourth in the balloting for The Associated Press NFL Offensive Player of the Year Award for the 2024 season.
The award was presented to Philadelphia Eagles running back Saquon Barkley at the “NFL Honors” program on Thursday night in New Orleans.
Barkley received 35 of the 50 first-place votes. Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson received 12 first-place votes, and Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow and Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen also received one first-place vote apiece.
The selectors voted for five players, with 10 points awarded for a first-place vote, five for second, three for third, two for fourth and one for fifth.
Barkley collected 406 points, Jackson had 183 and Bengals wide receiver Ja’Marr Chase finished third with 171.
Henry tallied 92 points. In addition to the first-place vote, Henry received two second-place votes, 18 third-place votes (more than any other player), four fourth-place votes and 10 fifth-place votes (also more than any other player).
During the 2024 regular season, Henry ran for 1,921 yards and 16 touchdowns on 325 carries. His yardage total was the 11th-highest in a single season in NFL history, and his TD total tied for the league lead. With his two touchdowns scored on his 19 receptions for 193 yards, Henry set a franchise single-season record with 18 touchdowns in 2024.
Nineteen players appeared on ballots for the AP NFL Offensive Player of the Year Award, with two other running backs joining Henry as representatives of Alabama on the list.
Jahmyr Gibbs of the Detroit Lions finished eighth in the voting with 21 points. Gibbs received one second-place vote, six fourth-place votes and four fifth-place votes.
Gibbs led the NFL with 20 touchdowns during the regular season, when he ran for 1,412 yards and 16 touchdowns on 250 carries and caught 52 passes for 517 yards and four touchdowns.
Josh Jacobs of the Green Bay Packers received two fifth-place votes.
Jacobs ran for 1,329 yards and 15 touchdowns on 301 carries and caught 36 passes for 342 yards and one touchdown during the 2024 regular season.
