3 ex-Seahawks are discovering how cruel NFL summers can be

The Seattle Seahawks might be wrapped up with their 2025 free agency. There is a chance they bring in an inexpensive player who is seen as more of a backup, but the rest of Seattle's projected $35,713,052 in cap room will go toward signing the 2025 draftees and filling out the practice squad.

Rayshawn Jenkins of the Seattle Seahawks

The team will have leftover money, which could roll into next year. That makes sense, as the Seahawks have several free agents they will need to decide on next offseason. The list includes edge rusher Boye Mafe, running back Kenneth Walker III, and cornerback Riq Woolen.

The players below will almost certainly not return to the Seahawks, though. All are free agents, but none fill a current need for the team. One might have issues finding a job elsewhere.

These 3 ex-Seahawks might have a difficult time in what is left of 2025 free agency

Safety Rayshawn Jenkins

As much as Seahawks head coach Mike Macdonald is a safety whisperer, turning good players into great ones, maybe that simply could not happen with Jenkins. At the beginning of 2024, he appeared to be a bad fit with the team, got hurt, and lost his job to Coby Bryant.

It also did not help that Seattle's defense began to improve markedly once Jenkins could not play. The defense's underwhelming performance in the first half of the season was not entirely his fault, of course, but he was part of the problem.

Jenkins is now 31 years old, but he has been mostly healthy throughout his career. He was better in coverage before coming to Seattle, allowing 25 of his 31 targets to be completed. Likely, a team will pick him up on a one-year deal.

Offensive tackle George Fant

Fant is in worse shape than Jenkins in terms of age. The offensive lineman will be 33 when the 2025 season begins, and he has been banged up in two of his last three seasons. Seattle signed him as a free agent last offseason in hopes he would be a solid backup in case presumed starter Abraham Lucas wasn't ready to return from knee surgery.

Lucas wasn't, and Fant was set to start, but he got injured in Week 1. He appeared in just two games and gave up three pressures in only 16 pass-block snaps. Fant had another year on his deal with the Seahawks, but the team rightly decided to release him this offseason. He might be too old and oft-injured for another team to sign.

Chance Fant finds a new NFL home: 50/100

Safety K'Von Wallace

Wallace has time on his side as he will turn 28 before this coming season, but he has not proven to any team he has been with that he deserves to be around a long time. In 2025, he will be on his fifth team in six years.

Something about Wallace makes a team think they can do better with his replacement. Maybe it is his inconsistency. He has had seasons where he is decent in coverage, some where he is awful (including 2024 with Seattle), and the same with his inability to consistently tackle.

He might be more of a special-teams player for a team that needs one. Otherwise, he might struggle to find a job.
