Could the Seattle Seahawks replace DK Metcalf with another high caliber big receiver in the 2025 NFL Draft?
According to one NFL Mock Draft, the Seahawks could see one of the top wide receiver prospects fall to them at No. 18 in the name of Tetairoa McMillan. As speed talks in the NFL, one reason the Arizona prospect could fall is his lack of over-the-top speed. Could that play right in the hands of the Seahawks?
After running a 4.48 40-yard dash as Arizona’s pro day, it’s likely McMillan will still be a top 10 pick. Standing at 6-foot-4, 219 pounds, that 40-time for his size is considered more than adequate. As a big-time pass catch receiver who has great agility and elusiveness for his size, McMillan shouldn’t slip down to the Seahawks unless teams doesn’t see him as the vertical threat he is projected to be.
Perhaps that is what Mike Band was thinking in his first NFL Mock Draft in which the top wide receiver prospect fall all the way to the Seahawks.
2025 NFL Mock Draft: NFL.com’s Mike Band has Seahawks landing a gift at No. 18
As unthinkable as it would be, Seattle did see Metcalf fall to them in the 2019 NFL Draft at No. 32 after he was projected as a first-round pick. Similar in size, McMillan does have a bit more raw talent as a receiver and would fit as the team’s X-receiver as he would team up with Cooper Kubb and Jaxson Smith-Njigba to give Sam Darnold quite the arsenal in his first season in Seattle.
In his mock draft, Band writes:
“Signing Kupp does not rule out taking a wideout with an early-round pick; rather, the 'Hawks should still be in the market for an "X" receiver like McMillan. Addressing the offensive line is also on the table, but given that the most immediate needs there are at guard, and GM John Schneider is reluctant to overpay for guards, it seems more likely he addresses the trenches with at least one of his four Day 2 picks.”
It is unlikely McMillan will fall, but this would be a gem of a pick if he does get past teams like the New England Patriots, Las Vegas Raiders and Dallas Cowboys. If this was to happen, the Seahawks would be winners of the Metcalf trade in that they would find a player in McMillan who could add his own element to Seattle’s offense as a big-bodied receiver. They also gain a second-round pick in the deal that could end up addressing their offensive line needs.
Talk about an offseason turning from bad to great for the Seahawks!
NFL Mocks has McMillan locked in as a top 10 pick
NFL Mocks does not agree with Band as McMillan should be a top 10 pick. In the latest top 10 mock draft, John Blair has McMillan going No. 8 to the Carolina Panthers which is more in the range of where the outstanding wide receiver should be selected. In another NFL Mocks draft, the Patriots trade back to No. 8 for McMillan. Again, a more likely out-come than the big receiver dropping to the tail end of the middle first round.
