One of the intriguing storylines at training camp for the Philadelphia Eagles is who is going to make the final roster at tight end besides Dallas Goedert and Grant Calcaterra.
Five players are fighting for one final spot as the third-string tight end. Kylen Granson and Harrison Bryant were the big-name free agents the Eagles brought in to compete for that third spot. One other tight end made some noise during offseason workouts that could end up earning the job.
Goedert and Calcaterra are the top two tight ends, but who is next in line? Training camp will decide that question, and it may take until the last day to figure it out.
2025 Eagles Training Camp Breakdown: Tight End
Dallas Goedert
Last season was a disappointment for Goedert as he missed seven games and statistically had his worst season since his rookie year in 2018 (42 receptions, 496 yards, two touchdowns). There was speculation as to whether he would come back to the team or be traded, but a new restructured deal guarantees Goedert on the team through the 2025 season.
Goedert is the unquestioned number one tight end on the team as he has been one of Jalen Hurts' favorite pass targets. The only question with him is whether he can stay healthy a whole season to be the guy Eagles fans know him to be.
Grant Calcaterra
Calcaterra was the saving grace when Goedert got hurt last year, as he had career-highs in receptions (24), yards (298), and touchdowns (one). That may not seem like much, but in a run-heavy offense, Calcaterra helped out in the passing game and proved to be a solid run blocker.
There's a strong chance Goedert ends up a free agent in 2026, which could open the door for Calcaterra to start at tight end next year. Competition would be brought in, but Calcaterra has proven to be trustworthy from the Eagles' coaching staff.
Kylen Granson
The long-time backup for the Indianapolis Colts has played well over his four-year career, but lost snaps last season. He finished with just 14 catches for 182 yards in 17 games.
At age 27, Granson has some solid years still ahead of him and could be a good third-string tight end on the team. He will have tough competition, but is a strong candidate for the job.
Harrison Bryant
Bryant is a five-year veteran who has played for the Cleveland Browns for four years and spent last year with the Las Vegas Raiders. He finished 2024 with just nine receptions for 86 yards, the worst season of his career.
Over the last two years, Bryant has finished under 100 yards on the year as he's more of a blocker and a goal-line target. Bryant and Granson will battle it out for the final spot as the favorites. It will depend on what kind of tight end the Eagles want to have on the roster: a pass catcher or a blocker.
E.J. Jenkins
Jenkins was an undrafted free agent in 2023, first with the New York Jets, then the Eagles, next the Raiders, and last year got settled on the Eagles' practice squad for part of the season. He played in eight games in 2024 and made just one catch for seven yards and a touchdown in the season finale against the New York Giants.
The good part of Jenkins is that he has experience in the offense, but not a ton of playing time. He feels like a perfect candidate for a practice squad spot, but could make a run for that final roster spot.
Nick Muse
Muse has played the last three years with the Minnesota Vikings after the team selected him in the seventh round of the 2022 NFL Draft. In 16 career games, Muse only made one catch for one yard.
During Eagles' offseason workouts, Muse made quite the impression on the coaching staff with some solid play. He feels like a dark horse candidate to win the third-string job, but it will take some great performances in preseason to get the job done.
Cameron Latu
Latu was a former third-round pick of the San Francisco 49ers in 2023. A torn meniscus during preseason crushed his 2023 season, with the 49ers cutting him at the end of last year's training camp. He was in and out of the Browns' roster throughout the season.
Of the tight ends on the roster, Latu feels like the long shot of the group. He needs an impressive showing in camp to have a shot at even getting on the practice squad.
