The competition has been fierce trying to determine who the New York Jets’ WR2 will be ahead of 2025.
ESPN’s Rich Cimini revealed that veteran wideout Josh Reynolds has jumped in front of the pack this offseason.
“After a strong offseason, Reynolds is the clear-cut leader for the WR2 job. He arrived with little fanfare as a free agent (one year, $2.8 million), mainly because of a down 2024 with the Broncos and Jaguars. It also was a turbulent year; he suffered arm and head wounds in a shooting,” Cimini explained.
“New Jets coach Aaron Glenn knows Reynolds from their time in Detroit, where the 30-year-old receiver was a solid complementary option. Beyond Garrett Wilson, the Jets lack big-play ability after cutting Davante Adams. Reynolds has separated from Allen Lazard and others,” Cimini added.
Reynolds joined the Jets during free agency on a one-year $2.75 million deal.
In the hit television series, “Game of Thrones”, there are red priests and priestesses.
They are described as “the clergy in the religion of [the] Lord of Light, and receive their name from the red clothing they wear. Most red priests appear to be zealous proselytizers, appearing throughout the continent of Essos, preaching the word of the Lord of Light.”
The red priests/priestesses are spread throughout Westeros, “which is a fictional continent that serves as the primary setting for the HBO series ‘Game of Thrones.'”
Their sole mission is to spread the gospel of the Lord of Light to those who have not heard it. Stay with me here, but this is where Reynolds enters the picture for the Jets.
Head coach Aaron Glenn has taken over the kingdom, and he is attempting to spread his message to the team. However, the majority of the roster has never been with Glenn at any of his previous stops, so they’re unaware of the message he is attempting to spread.
Reynolds can serve as a red priest in the locker room. Whether consciously or subconsciously, Reynolds can spread the message, standards, and ideals of this new regime as someone who has been around it in the past.
The veteran pass catcher was with Glenn for three seasons with the Lions. He also crossed over with general manager Darren Mougey for a part of 2024 on the Broncos.
“Honestly, I wasn’t even sure about them [signing with the Jets],” he told Jets senior reporter Eric Allen. “I saw AG get signed [here] and I was like oh that was a good pickup for them. Then my agent comes was like hey the Jets are interested and I was like alright, let me hear them out.”
Not only did Reynolds hear them out, but now he is expected to have a significant role in the Jets offense.
Wilson is the clear No. 1 target, but there is more meat on the bone for someone else to take advantage of. Reynolds’ previous career highs are 52 receptions, 618 receiving yards, and five touchdown catches.
The former Texas A&M product has a chance to top all of those in 2025 as one of the top potential target monsters on the green and white.
